6 Cozy Winter Reads - The perfect novels to get you through till spring - thewildkidsapparel.com

Winter is long, like, really long. And even though I'm one of those people that actually loves it (I am not sure what is wrong with me), I do know that my reading obsession is a huge part of it! There is absolutely no better way to relax than to pour yourself a cup of tea, get cozy with a blanket and a GOOD book. There are so many great books out these days, but the past few months I have devoured the books listed above and I wanted to share them with you! I would love to know if you've read any of these and what you think!

  1. The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo - I'm going to be honest and say that at FIRST, I wasn't sure about this one. There is a bit of romance in it that typically I'm not into. But, I knew this was one that is very well loved so I kept going, and I'm so glad I did. It's about two people who meet around September 11th, as the towers fell. We follow their connection for many years, and it's pretty incredible the way this story weaves through time and so many changes in their lives. What a story! I am certain this will eventually be a movie and I can't wait to see it play out on screen.
  2. You by Caroline Kepnes - Ok, so I know everyone is binging this on netflix, but the book is SO GOOD. I think the series was done very well too, but this author is one of the most talented writer's I've read in a LONG time. AND, there is a 2nd book, Hidden Bodies, that might be even better, if that's possible. Grab them, you won't be disappointed. If you live under a rock and don't know about this story, it's a stalker story told through the eyes of the stalker himself. It is terrifying, but it's also written in such a way that you absolutely don't want to put it down. Joe, the main character, may be one of the most well-written characters I have ever read in modern literature. Brilliant.
  3. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman - This book. I was so happy to have read this, because it truly is one of the most original stories I've ever read. There are absolutely NO cliche characters in this, it's about a women with some mental health issues (hello, all of us) and you see her journey from avoiding her truth to really discovering what happened to her. It's so moving and I fell madly in love with Eleanor, I actually miss her now that I'm finished the book.
  4. The Winter People by Gail McMahon - Talk about the perfect winter read. I'm about 95% through this one right now, and in a word, it is CHILLING. There is so much mystery and snow and intrigue and I can't stop ready it!! Set in a snowy town in Vermont, we read about several stories involving loss, disappearances, and a possibility of perhaps bringing loves ones back from the dead. Scary in the best way possible.
  5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - Set in World War II, we follow a young German girl who loves books, and who is watching the world around her fall apart. She steals books from Jewish book stores that are being burned down, and her lovely foster father teaches her to read them. This story is so poignant, and so well told. Be ready for tears, but also to love this one so very much.
  6. I Am, I Am, I Am by Maggie O'Farrell - This is a brilliantly written memoir about a women and her many brushes with death. Yes, seriously. She starts with the time she came very close to being the victim of a terrifying murderer, and you hear about many more that will break your heart. This is such a raw, heartfelt story and it really left a lasting impression on me. One of the best books I've read in a long time.

So tell me, what are you reading? I would love to add to me ever-expanding 'To Be Read' list!
